How do you become a self-love coach?
Starting a self-love coaching business can be a fulfilling and lucrative career choice.
And here, you’ll learn the step-by-step of starting your coaching business so that you can…
- Build a life you love
- Work with ideal clients
- Decide when and where you work
Let’s get started!
What is self-love coaching?
Self-love coaching is a form of coaching that focuses on helping clients develop a strong sense of self-love, self-acceptance, and self-worth.
As a self-love coach, you serve as a mentor. You offer support and your own unique methodology to help people on their self-love journey.
You guide clients to develop a deep sense of:
- Self-acceptance
- Compassion
- Appreciation
And you empower them to:
- Prioritize their well-being
- Overcome self-limiting beliefs
- Embrace self-care practices
But why is self-love coaching important? Let’s take a look.
Why is self-loving important?
What impact do you have as a self-love coach?
Self-love means embracing your true self, treating yourself with kindness and respect, and nurturing your personal growth and wellbeing.
The focus is not only on your actions but also on your thoughts and emotions.
Having self-love means maintaining an overall positive view of yourself.

Studies show that self-love goes hand in hand with self-compassion. And self-compassion has been found to reduce stress, increase productivity, and increase resilience.
Here are some examples of what healthy self-love might look like:
- Pursuing your goals and dreams
- Prioritizing your health and wellbeing
- Setting realistic expectations
- Daring to ask for help
- Being assertive in expressing your boundaries
- Appreciating your strengths and unique qualities
- Living in alignment with your personal values
As you can see, your coaching can have a big impact on your clients’ lives.
But who can become a self-love coach? Here’s what you need to know.
Do you need a degree to become a self-love coach?
Contrary to being a therapist, a degree is not a prerequisite for becoming a successful self-love coach.
Rather than focusing on formal qualifications, with coaching the emphasis lies on:
- Acquiring relevant experience
- Obtaining tangible results for your clients
(Note: Some niches, mainly in the health niche, do require a certification and formal training – make sure you know the specific rules that apply in your industry. As a general rule, though, coaching is unregulated.)
Ultimately, therapists and coaches have different roles.
A therapist primarily focuses on addressing mental health issues, providing diagnosis and treatment.
A coach, on the other hand, focuses more on goal setting, personal development, and performance improvement, often in non-clinical settings.
After all, what people care about are results – not certifications.
If you have experience helping people build these skills, you’re qualified to be a coach. Certifications are unregulated and the time and resources you spend on a certification can also be used on finding your first paying clients.
By offering a lower price to those clients, you can become a better coach – while your clients get to work with you at a great price.
But if you would like to get certified anyway, here are some self-love coach certifications you can check out:
- NYU Certificate in Professional Coaching ($7,500)
- USC Coaching Program ($3,800)
- The ICF-accredited the Beautiful You Life Coaching Course ($3,300)
How much do self-love coaches charge?
You might be wondering how much you can earn as a self-love coach.
Let’s look at some numbers.
According to the International Coach Federation’s (ICF) latest study, the average income for coaches is $67,800 per year.
Note that these figures are based on coaches who work part-time.
As a freelance self-love coach, you can unlock even greater earning opportunities.
When you get more testimonials from happy clients, you can increase your rates and grow your income.
For example, many of my clients consistently surpass the six-figure mark and beyond.
One of them is Spencer, a mindset coach. She makes 3X what she used to make in her corporate role where she used the same skills as she does now in her coaching business.
The first way to increase your income is to offer more one-on-one coaching and increase your rates.
But you can only do it so much. At some point, you won’t have time to take on more clients. (Typically, that happens at the ten-client mark.)
Here are two other ways to grow your business:
- Offer group coaching programs: Guide and inspire many clients simultaneously. You maximize your time and expertise, while your clients get to learn from each other.
- Offer online courses: Once you’ve successfully built a group coaching program, you can add on online courses and build a “passive” income stream.
How can you become a self-love coach?
Still not sure how to become a self-love coach?
No worries! I got you covered.
Let’s go over some important phases in setting up your self-love coaching business.
Find your self-love coaching niche
Defining your niche is the first step toward establishing your unique identity as a self-love coach.
A niche helps you stand out by tailoring your offer to a specific audience.
For example, here’s how my students (in other niches) have niched down:
- David helps his coaching clients improve their health with herbs
- Adunola supports millennials who want a fulfilling career
- Ryan helps people invest in student housing to become financially free
Ask yourself: Who do you want to work with, and in what specific way?
By identifying your target audience, you can tailor your approach and create an authentic connection.
Whether you’re passionate about:
- Empowering individuals in relationships
- Body image transformation
- Personal growth and authenticity
- Mindfulness and self-care
- Parenting and family dynamics
- Spirituality and inner connections
- And so on
Narrowing your focus doesn’t limit your opportunities. Instead, you stand out and attract clients who resonate with your specific offering.
Create self-love coaching packages
The next step is to create your coaching package.
It’s easy to think that the most important thing is to define how many PDFs you share, the number of calls you hold, and so on.
But what really matters is the transformation you offer.
Your ideal clients won’t measure your worth by the amount of hours you dedicate to them. Instead, they judge you by the incredible results you help them achieve.
Most importantly, your package should have a clear goal. Even though self-love coaching can seem intangible, your clients get results.
For instance, is the result you offer that they will improve their relationships, maybe even find love by first loving themselves?
Or is it less stress and higher productivity so that they can perform better – and earn a higher salary or increase their income?

Those are just a few examples.
Then, you create your package around that goal. What do your clients need to achieve in month one, month two, and so on? How many calls do you offer? What exercises will you use to support your coaching?
Once you have a package, you need to decide on its price and structure. That’s what we’ll look at next.
Price your self-love coaching program
How will you structure your coaching fees and payment options, so that you can maximize value for both you and your clients?
Will you charge per session, per month, or opt for specific packages?
In most cases, packages are the best option.
The benefits of package pricing
Package pricing positions your coaching based on the results your clients will achieve, rather than merely valuing your time.
Instead of focusing on the hours you put in, you shift the conversation toward the transformative experience you provide.
With packages, there are specific goals to be accomplished within a defined timeframe.
How much should your self-love coaching package cost?
Now, how long should a package last and how much should it cost?
I recommend beginners to go for three-month packages of $1.5K.
Once you gain more experience, you can then increase both the timeframe and the price itself.
Think of a three-month package at $4K or a six-month package at $8K, to name just two examples.
This price recommendation is based on my own experience.
I started out by charging $5K. But after selling one package to someone I had helped for two weeks (and who had seen first-hand the value I could offer), I kept receiving ‘no’ after ‘no’ – because I hadn’t earned my stripes.
People didn’t know who I was and so they didn’t trust me.
After the 30th rejection, I decided to lower my price to $1.5K.
However, I knew this was only temporary.
As soon as I got my first glowing testimonials (and people saw what I could do for them), I raised it back to $5K.
I haven’t looked back since.
Market your self-love coaching services
Let’s get the word out about your new self-love coaching business so that you can reach potential clients.
When it comes to marketing, first and foremost, focus on the power of transformation.
Show how you will help clients achieve this transformation and the many benefits they will reap from it.
But instead of talking about your services, build relationships by offering value. If you help people get small “wins,” they’ll quickly see how working with you is a no-brainer.
And to find your clients, use these strategies:
- Social media platforms: Use social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. Engage with your target audience, share valuable insights, and showcase success stories. I tapped into social media to grow my first online business to six figures in four months.
- Tap into the power of your network: Reach out to friends and family. Some might be interested in self-love coaching or can refer you to someone else. This is how I started selling career coaching; I reached out to people in my network who had asked me for career advice and a few people were interested in my coaching.–
- Podcasts: Reach out to existing podcasts and pitch yourself as a guest. Podcasts are highly engaging, which makes them a great opportunity to get in front of your ideal clients. (Even if you might be a new business owner, you have experience in the industry and can offer highly valuable content.)

Self-love coaching tools and techniques
To evoke meaningful progress, you’ll have to use effective coaching tools and techniques. Seeing your coaching more as “coach-sulting” is one of the best tools to provide your clients with what they’re looking for.
Here’s what I mean by that.
Why coaching alone isn’t enough anymore
Over the past decade, I’ve seen a significant evolution in the coaching landscape.
And I believe we need a redefinition of coaching itself.
Coaching, as traditionally defined, revolved around guiding clients to discover their own answers through probing questions and self-directed learning.
This is called the Socratic method.
It can be very useful at times. But in today’s coaching industry, solely relying on it won’t deliver optimal results.
That’s why I propose embracing a shift towards “coach-sulting.”
What is coach-sulting?
Coach-sulting refers to a combination of coaching and consulting.
It blends two important aspects together:
- Empowering self-reflection (coaching)
- Strategic guidance (consulting)
With coach-sulting, your role as a coach extends beyond solely guiding clients to find their own answers.
Your clients seek your guidance not only for the coaching process but primarily for the tangible results they desire.
So, to accelerate their progress, you also provide them with your experience by telling them what the next steps are. (Instead of them “finding” the answer themselves.)
You empower clients to take ownership of their journey, but you also share your experiences when appropriate and offer practical recommendations.
This allows your clients to achieve their desired outcomes more efficiently.
And in turn, you get to position yourself as a catalyst for rapid transformation.

Great self-love coaching questions to ask
Not yet sure what to say or ask during your coaching call?
Here are 10 great questions you can ask as a self-love coach:
- Where can I give you some extra support? (The ultimate “help me to help you” question.)
- “When we started working together, you mentioned you had fears around [insert fears]. How are you feeling about this right now?” (This shows that you truly listen and care about your clients’ inner world and progress.)
- “What did you do this week?” (Not to have small talk, but to hold clients accountable.)
- “What went well this week?” (Solely focusing on the negative is never a good idea.)
- “What do you want to focus on during this call?” (Helps clients identify their biggest areas of growth.)
- “What questions are coming up for you?” (Encourages clients to ask questions.)
- “What else can I support you with?”
- “How do you feel about that?”
- “What’s coming up for you?”
- “What’s your biggest takeaway from today’s call?” (Perfect way to wrap up the session in a reflective way.)
With these questions, you’ll be better equipped to track your client’s progress and help them achieve their goals.
You’ll also get a better look into their minds and current circumstances, which helps you to further tailor your coach-sulting to their specific needs.
