How to get health coaching clients fast: 13 proven strategies

Let’s be honest – the health coaching industry is more competitive than ever in 2025.

But here’s the secret most “gurus” won’t tell you: Most health coaches struggle because they’re using outdated client attraction strategies that simply don’t work anymore.

I’m about to share the exact client-attraction system that’s working RIGHT NOW for my most successful health coach clients.

So if you’re ready to fill your calendar with dream clients who eagerly pay your premium rates (and tell all their friends about you), here’s your step-by-step blueprint for how to attract health coaching clients effectively:

1. Define your niche (this is non-negotiable)

Implementation time: 1-2 weeks

Want to know the #1 reason health coaches struggle to find clients? They try to help everyone.

Would you rather be:

  • A generic health coach competing with thousands of others…
  • OR the go-to expert who helps “busy executives reverse pre-diabetes without giving up their favorite foods”?

When you speak directly to someone’s exact pain points, they’ll feel like you’re reading their mind – and they’ll want to pay you to help them.

Health coaching niche examples

For example, based on coaching trends, these are some of the most in-demand and profitable health coaching niches right now:

How to find your own health coaching niche

Here’s exactly how to find your perfect niche:

  • Choose ONE specific sub-niche within health coaching that you’re passionate about and qualified to help
  • Research what your dream clients’ biggest frustrations and desires are:
    • Join 3-5 relevant Facebook groups
    • Search Reddit forums (r/nutrition, r/weightloss, etc.)
    • Review comments on popular YouTube channels in your field
    • Note exactly what language potential clients use to describe their problems
  • Validate your niche with this simple test:
    • Can you clearly define who you help and what specific problem you solve?
    • Are people actively searching for solutions to this problem?
    • Do you have the expertise (or can you develop it) to deliver results?
    • Is this audience willing and able to pay for solutions?
Graph of how to find a coaching niche

When you speak directly to someone’s exact pain points, they’ll want to pay you to help them.

For example: My former client Lorisa turned her nursing experience into helping people become healthy with a plant-based diet.

2. Build a magnetic health coaching brand

Implementation time: 2-4 weeks

“But Luisa, the health coaching market is so saturated!”

I hear this all the time, and yes—there are a lot of health coaches out there. But here’s what most miss:

There is only ONE you.

Your unique combination of:

  • Life experiences and personal health journey
  • Education and specialized knowledge
  • Distinctive coaching approach and personality

These elements create your brand – the reason clients choose YOU over other equally qualified coaches.

Complete this exercise to define what makes you different:

I help [specific target audience] achieve [transformation] so that [desired outcome].

For example: My student David healed his asthma naturally using herbs. Now he helps people lose weight using similar natural methods. His unique story and approach have clients seeking him out specifically.

I talk more about branding here:

Next up? Creating content.

3. Create irresistible content that positions you as THE expert

Strategic content marketing is one of the best ways to attract health coaching clients. After all, content marketing leads are 6× more likely to convert than leads from traditional marketing channels.

But there’s a massive difference between putting out content and creating content that works to bring in clients.

The secret to client-attracting content is answering this question:

“If I were my ideal client, what would convince me that this coach has the solution to my specific problem?”

Then create content that demonstrates:

  • You understand their struggle better than they do
  • You have a proven process to get them results
  • You’ve helped others just like them succeed

For each piece of content, make sure it includes at least one of these three elements:

#1: Connect

#2: Entertain

#3: Learn

That’s what I do in my own content. I often share fun things from my everyday life and connect them to my audience’s goals – like lessons from Netflix series or what my goofy German shepherd Falco is up to.

This positioning strategy is how I went from zero to $106K in just 4 months while still working my 9-5 job.

Or take my former client Adrienne, a registered nutritionist. She shares helpful and easy recipes that are fun to watch – but also subtly demonstrate her expertise and approach to nutrition.

4. Market yourself on social media (without wasting your time)

Implementation time: 2-3 hours weekly

Social media is an ideal place to get health coaching clients fast if you use it the RIGHT way.

The wrong approach? Endless posting of generic health tips that get no engagement and attract the wrong audience.

Instead, use my two-part marketing approach that’s generated millions in coaching revenue:

Step 1: Choose a platform

Go where your ideal clients already hang out. Don’t waste time on TikTok if your target market spends their time on LinkedIn or Facebook groups.

Step 2: Build relationships

Once you’ve selected your platform:

  • Join 3-5 niche groups where your ideal clients are hanging out
  • Spend 15 minutes daily responding to questions with helpful, non-salesy advice
  • Connect personally with 3-5 potential clients weekly through DMs
  • Share valuable content that showcases your expertise 2-3 times weekly

This is how you effectively promote your health coaching business without being pushy.

And it’s the exact strategy that landed me my first $5,000 client who reached out to ME after seeing my helpful responses in a group—no pitching required.

5. Build an email list that converts subscribers into buyers

Implementation time: 4-5 hours setup, then 1-2 hours weekly

Did you know email marketing for health coaches delivers a 4,200% ROI? That’s $42 back for every $1 spent.

Unlike social media (where changing algorithms can tank your reach overnight), your email list is an asset YOU own and control.

With that said, email marketing is a long game, so don’t expect overnight results. Building an email list takes time – which is why it isn’t the fastest strategy to get your first paying clients.

But when you’re ready to build your own audience, it’s one of the most reliable ways to attract your ideal clients month after month.

Here’s how to get started:

  1. Sign up for an email marketing platform like Mailchimp
  2. Create a lead magnet (a free PDF or mini-course that offers a quick win) to incentivize people to sign up
  3. Set up an automated welcome sequence that nurtures new subscribers and introduces your coaching services
Here’s one of my own lead magnets

Not sure what you should share with your subscribers?

Ask yourself these questions:

  • What are my audience’s biggest pain points right now?
  • What skills or experience do I have that I can share to help them get a quick win?
  • What lessons have I learned that could save my target audience time, money, or frustration?

By offering genuine value through every email, you build trust and relationships with your audience at scale.

And no – writing emails doesn’t have to be a time suck. I still write my own emails and they take me no more than 15 minutes a day.

I go into more detail on email marketing in this video:

Now, let’s talk about building your network.

6. Leverage your existing network (without being “salesy”)

Implementation time: 2-3 hours upfront

Here’s the fastest way to get your first clients: tap into the network you already have.

You likely already know people who either need a health coach or know someone who does – but they have no idea you offer these services!

Use this template to tap into your network:

“Hey [Name],

I’m building a business to help [niche audience] [blank].

Do you know any [niche audience] who’d be interested in a free, no-obligation health coaching call? If so, please let me know and I can share more about how I can help.”

Warmly,

[Your Name]

Using this approach, you’re not pressuring anyone to buy. But you ARE offering value to anyone who needs it.

This simple strategy works: Many of my clients have landed their first paying clients simply by letting their network know what they’re doing now.

7. Offer strategic free consultations that convert

Implementation time: 1-2 hours to set up process

When I first started coaching, I got 30 “no’s” in a row. Ouch.

When I dug into why I couldn’t seem to get clients, I realized: I was a brand new coach and hadn’t earned trust yet. People simply weren’t ready to invest without seeing my value firsthand.

That’s when I began offering free consultation calls – what I call the “Taster Technique.” You give prospects a taste of your expertise by delivering real value in a short session.

The key: During these consultations (which should be 20-30 minutes long), focus on giving them one significant insight or quick win that demonstrates what working with you could do.

Then, if it feels right, ask if they’d like to learn more about how you could help them achieve their bigger health goals. More often than not, they’ll want to continue the conversation.

8. Get powerful testimonials and referrals

Implementation time: 1 hour setup, then 30 minutes per client

Did you know 92% of buyers read reviews and testimonials before buying? And 51% rely on personal recommendations?

Your existing clients can be your most powerful marketing asset – if you ask them correctly.

Here’s how to leverage social proof:

Testimonials

What does a good testimonial look like? One that highlights your client’s transformation and how you helped them get there. Like Adrienne’s testimonial about my own coaching services:

Screenshot of Adrienne’s testimonial

To ask your clients for the right types of testimonials, you can send them an email like this:

“Hey [Name],

I’m really thrilled about the progress you’ve made – from [specific achievement] to surpassing your [specific goal]! Would you be open to sharing a testimonial about our journey together? I can send over some guiding questions. And I’d be happy to then put them together into a testimonial for you to review.

Let me know!

Thank you,

[Your Name]”

Referrals

Your current clients can be a referral goldmine to help you get your next paying clients.

Ask them:

“Hi [Name],

I’m so glad you’re happy with your results! I’m opening up my schedule again to take on new clients. If you know someone who would love to get my help with achieving [results], please let me know and I would appreciate it if you could connect us.

Thanks,

[Your name]”

Next, let’s look at how to create coaching packages that sell.

9. Offer an irresistible health coaching package

The difference between struggling coaches and booked-out coaches often comes down to how they present their offers.

Compare these two approaches:

  • ❌ “Book a call to learn how I can help you lose weight.”
  • ✅ “Discover my 90-Day Metabolic Reset Program that helps busy professionals lose 15-20 pounds without giving up wine, pasta, or their social life.”

The second offer speaks directly to what your ideal client wants (weight loss without sacrifice) and gives them a clear timeframe and outcome.

When crafting your coaching package, focus on the transformation, not just the deliverables. People don’t buy coaching sessions—they buy the person they’ll become after working with you.

Effective coaching packages include:

  • A specific outcome with a defined timeframe
  • A clear process or system (your methodology)
  • Support elements (coaching calls, resources, accountability)
  • Bonuses that enhance the core transformation

10. Scale with paid ads (when you’re ready)

Implementation time: 10-15 hours setup, then 3-4 hours weekly management

Paid advertising helped me scale my coaching business to seven figures.

But here’s my honest advice: Master organic client acquisition first before investing in ads.

Screenshot of Facebook ad example
I used to run a lot of ads. While they work, they also require a significant time investment.

Why? Because:

  • 👉 Working with real clients will help you create more targeted, effective ads
  • 👉 If you have a small budget, ads can quickly eat into your profits if you don’t know how to use them properly

When you’re ready to scale with ads, start with a small budget ($10-20/day) and focus on reaching warm audiences first – people who already know you through your content or email list.

The most effective platforms for health coaching ads right now are Facebook/Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn, depending on your specific niche.

Next up: Another way to scale your health coaching business.

11. Use SEO to get clients to come to you

Implementation time: Initial 15-20 hours, then 10+ hours monthly

SEO (search engine optimization) creates a system where potential clients find YOU when searching for solutions to their health challenges.

When someone searches for relevant queries, like “how to lose postpartum weight naturally” or “executive nutrition coaching,” your content appears, establishing you as the expert before they even speak with you.

My own articles rank on Google for various coaching terms. Chances are, you found this article on a search engine!

Instead of having to constantly find them on social media or other channels, they’ll come to you pre-sold on your expertise.

I’ve generated thousands of high-quality leads through organic search. Unlike paid ads that stop working when you stop paying, SEO continues delivering clients month after month.

To rank higher:

  • Find the right keywords: Research the exact phrases your ideal clients are searching for with a tool like Google Keyword Planner
  • Create valuable content: Create in-depth, valuable content (1,500+ words) around those phrases
  • Build backlinks: Get links from reputable health and wellness websites
  • Optimize your website: Ensure your website loads quickly and works well on mobile devices

12. Run a high-converting webinar

Implementation time: 20-25 hours for first webinar, 8-10 hours for subsequent ones

I’ll be completely honest: My first 20 webinars were absolute disasters. But now? They generate multiple seven figures in my business.

The secret to webinar success isn’t fancy slides or complicated tech—it’s providing so much value that attendees think, “If the free training is this good, imagine what the paid program must be like!”

A high-converting health coaching webinar should:

  • Address ONE specific problem your ideal clients face
  • Share your proprietary method for solving that problem
  • Include case studies and testimonials from successful clients
  • End with a clear, limited-time offer to work with you

For more on my proven webinar formula, watch this quick training:

13. Focus obsessively on client results (your best marketing tool)

Implementation time: Ongoing

Here’s the truth most coaches miss: Your clients don’t care about your certification, your coaching process, or even how many hours you spend with them.

They care about ONE thing: Results.

So ask yourself: “How can I structure my coaching to deliver the fastest, most impressive results possible?”

And when you’re selling your offer, give prospective clients an idea of the transformation they’ll get if they work with you.

Can you help them:

  • Lose 15 pounds in 90 days without restrictive dieting?
  • Have the energy to play with their grandchildren within two weeks?
  • Reduce their blood pressure naturally within 60 days?
Multiple ETE testimonials
Thanks to client results, I’ve scaled my own business to eight figures.

When you become known as the coach who actually delivers on your promises, you’ll never struggle to find clients again.

First 30 days action plan

The biggest mistake new health coaches make is to try and implement all of these strategies at once.

Instead, here’s exactly what to focus on in your first month as a new coach:

WeekStrategyTime investmentExpected outcome
1Define your niche (#1)5-10 hoursClear target market and messaging
2Leverage your network (#6)2-3 hoursOutreach to 10 people you already know
3Create consultation framework (#7)4-6 hoursReady-to-use consultation process
4Design your coaching package (#9)6-8 hoursCompelling offer

Now, let’s go over some of the questions I get asked the most!

FAQ: How to get health coaching clients

Is there a high demand for health coaches?

Absolutely. The US health coaching market is projected to reach $4.39 billion this year. With rising healthcare costs and growing interest in preventative wellness, qualified health coaches are more in demand than ever.

How much should a health and wellness coach charge?

While the average health coach earns around $40/hour working for someone else, self-employed health coaches regularly command $100-$200/hour. When you package your services into comprehensive programs rather than hourly sessions, you can earn even more while delivering better results.

Is a health coach certification worth it?

Legally speaking, you generally don’t need certification to work as a health coach in the US (though regulations vary by state). But if getting certified is important to you (or your target market), consider organizations like the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching, Institute for Integrative Nutrition, or Precision Nutrition.

The most important factor is your ability to help clients get results – certifications can help, but they’re not a substitute for genuine expertise and a client-centered approach.

How do you make money as a health coach?

Starting your own coaching business is unquestionably the most profitable path. Begin with one-on-one coaching to refine your methodology and gather testimonials, then scale with group programs. Once established, diversify your income through digital courses, workshops, and passive income products.

The most successful health coaches in my network have multiple revenue streams, with flagship coaching programs as their core offering.
