What is a confidence coach?
So, you’re thinking about becoming a confidence coach? Let’s break down what that means.
A confidence coach is someone who helps people shake off self-doubt, overcome their limiting beliefs, and build REAL confidence.
Confidence coaching is not about fluff or just “believing in yourself.” It’s about giving clients tools to overcome their lack of confidence and build life skills that completely shifts someone’s outlook on what they can and can’t do.
Higher self-confidence doesn’t just sound good — for example, it’s scientifically linked to better entrepreneurial success. Overall, true confidence is a game changer for people in multiple areas of their lives, including relationships, health, education, and work.
Now, how does coaching increase confidence? Here’s how confidence coaching helps:
- Tackling self-doubt
- Overcoming paralyzing fear of failure
- Improving public speaking and presentation skills
- Getting better at social interactions
- Believing in one’s own skills and talents
- Getting healthier
- Developing a positive mindset
- Building better relationships
- Living a more fulfilling life
With the right confidence coaching tools, this is what you can help create.
Let’s go over how to do this by answering the question:

What does a confidence coach do?
Does confidence coaching work? In short, yes.
As a confidence coach, you help clients break out from what’s holding them back. People often stick to what’s familiar — even if it’s not good for them. Your job is to show them there’s more out there and help them get there step by step.
But, how do you coach someone who lacks confidence?
Besides empathy, you’ll want to include a lot of the following:
- Active listening: Listen more than you talk
- Positivity reinforcement: Focus on small, positive changes
- Goal setting with realistic benchmarks: Set clear goals and track progress
- Regular feedback sessions: Offer feedback, but keep it constructive
Next, let’s go over how you can become a successful confidence coach.
How to become a confidence coach
If you’re passionate about guiding others to find their confidence, this might be your calling.
To help you out, I’ve created a four-step plan.
It covers:
- How to find your niche
- The skills you need to become a successful confidence coach
- How to create a powerful coaching program
- Strategies to get your first clients
1. Find your confidence coaching niche
Having a niche is crucial. It makes you stand out in a saturated market AND ensures you attract clients who resonate with your offer. This is how you become the go-to expert in your field.
Now, who needs confidence coaching? Here are some potential confidence coaching niches:
- People who want to get into leadership roles
- People with social anxiety
- Entrepreneurs who struggle with building their businesses
- People who want to improve their public speaking skills
- Athletes who want to improve their performance
Not sure what your niche is?
Here’s a step-by-step to narrow it down:
- Reflect on your strengths: What are your experiences, skills, or interests? Maybe you’ve overcome personal challenges, or you’ve always been the ‘go-to’ friend for pep talks.
- Identify the demand: What are people struggling with? Is it public speaking, making decisions, or perhaps social anxiety? List down potential areas people might seek help for.
- Market research: Are confidence coaches in demand? Yes! But also do a quick online search for your specific niche. If others are offering similar services, it means there’s demand for that too.
Finding your niche isn’t about reinventing the wheel. It’s about finding where your unique skills meet a real need in terms of helping people who lack self-confidence.

2. Build confidence coaching skills
So, what makes a great confidence coach?
First of all: a methodology for building self-assurance.
In other words, a coaching process for helping others become confident – and the results to back up your coaching. You need to have built up your own confidence and possibly helped others do the same.
Besides confidence, you’ll also need some other top coaching skills.
These three are crucial:
Skill one: coach-sulting (give actionable advice)
What’s coach-sulting? It’s the sweet spot between coaching and consulting. While coaching is about guiding clients to find their own answers, consulting involves providing expert advice.
Combining the two ensures your clients not only discover but also act.
Sometimes you guide, other times you advise. This gets clients better and faster results.
For a confidence coach, this type of actionable advice might look like:
- Month 1: Identify what’s holding your client back. What are their main confidence barriers? Give them weekly tasks to address these issues. For example, if they’re very shy, have them start a small chat with someone new or attend a public event alone.
- Month 2: Tackle bigger fears step by step with exposure exercises. For example, if a client fears public speaking, start with them practicing a speech alone, then in front of friends, and so on. This gradually builds up their confidence in their abilities.
- Month 3: Cultivate resilience. You could set up weekly challenges, ensuring they don’t revert to old patterns. An example would be engaging in a group activity they’ve previously avoided.
This method helps your clients continue their transformation long after the coaching ends.
(I’ll explain the benefits of a three-month timeline in a bit.)
Skill two: motivating your clients (belief)
Motivating your clients is key. When clients feel motivated, they act and overcome challenges. This leads to results.
Here’s the thing: To motivate someone, you genuinely need to believe in them.
This can’t be faked.
As a confidence coach, your job is not only to show clients that they can reach their goals, you also need to believe it yourself.
Think of it this way: when starting something new, doubts can creep in. But having someone who’s been there, cheering them on, can help clients recognize their own potential.
It’s why many turn to coaches in the first place.
Skill three: being accountable (candor)
As a coach, you need to hold your clients accountable.
Here’s why: People often know what they should do, but they hesitate, procrastinate, or avoid doing it.
That’s where you step in.
To help your clients get what they’re after, you keep them on track. Sometimes, this also means tough love.
Your job isn’t just to cheer on the sidelines. You have to spot when a client is stuck and then speak up.
Here’s an example:
Imagine you’re coaching someone who’s trying to build confidence in public speaking. Over a few coaching sessions, you’ve noticed they’re not practicing as agreed or are avoiding opportunities to speak.
In a situation like this, you might say, “I’ve noticed you’ve been avoiding public speaking opportunities, even though we agreed it’s an area to work on. Let’s talk about what might be holding you back.”
It’s straightforward, but it addresses the issue head-on.
This candid approach helps you get to the root of the problem.
It might be hard for the client to hear (and for you to say), but it’s necessary.
After all, your main goal is to help your clients grow.
Your job is to reflect both their strengths and areas of growth. And often, just having someone point out these hurdles can inspire a client to overcome them.

3. Create a confidence coaching program
Now, it’s time for the next step: creating a powerful confidence coaching program.
I teach my students to work with coaching packages. Here’s why:
It’s not about the number of hours you clock in. Instead, it’s about the TRANSFORMATION your clients achieve.
Your ideal clients are here for specific outcomes, not your time. They want to overcome their self-doubts and grow confidently – and that’s what coaching programs help you achieve.
In the beginning, you’ll invest more time while you fine-tune your coaching methods. But as you learn, you’ll become more efficient. That’s one great way to achieve higher rates.
Remember how I spoke about the three-month package?
That’s because this is the sweet spot — long enough to see real change.
Plus, shorter packages like these are also easier to sell. When you’re new to coaching, clients might hesitate to commit to longer durations right away.
Here’s my recommended format:
Offer a 90-day package with biweekly or monthly sessions of 45-60 minutes. Supplement these with ongoing support like emails and quick text check-ins. Many clients won’t even make use of these extra coaching services, but offering it can help them reach their goals faster.
Especially when you’re starting out, be the coach who goes the extra mile. Focusing on making a profit and being efficient can come later. For now, zero in on creating packages that drive real, tangible results.
THAT’s how you build a profitable and sustainable business.

4. Get your first confidence coaching clients
Next, you’ll want to go out and actually get clients. Well, just ONE client for now…
My advice? Start small.
Getting that one client should be your goal. When you’ve successfully helped them, aim for a few more.
It’s tempting to want to hit the big numbers immediately, but building trust takes time.
I remember a time when I ambitiously set a goal to make $30,000 in a month. The catch? I hadn’t earned a single dollar yet. By now, I’ve long surpassed this monthly income. But it was a highly unrealistic goal for my situation at the time – and it ultimately kept me back from reaching my goal.
Don’t make the same mistake.
Instead, set achievable targets. This leads to momentum rather than discouragement.
So, where do you find your first client?
- Reach out: Maybe it’s someone in your circle, or perhaps it’s someone who’s shown interest in your services. Ask friends for referrals.
- Attract: Reaching out gets the ball rolling, but the ideal scenario is clients seeking you out. How? Engage where they are. If they’re on platforms like Instagram, Reddit, or Facebook, be there. Offer insights, answer questions, and genuinely engage. Establish yourself as a credible source in the confidence coaching world.
After your first satisfied client (and their glowing testimonial), attracting more people is much easier.

Do you need a confidence coaching certification?
There’s a myth circulating that you absolutely need a confidence coaching certification to be qualified.
Here’s the reality: Coaching is not a regulated industry. And unless you’re aiming to offer therapy or delve deep into mental health, you don’t NEED a certification to be a confidence coach.
What you do need to do is help your clients get results.
Often, this comes from firsthand experience. For example, maybe you’ve battled your own confidence “demons” or helped someone else conquer theirs.
If you decide to get formal training, always go for a reputable organization that’s ideally accredited by the International Coaching Federation (ICF). (ICF is the closest to being a regulatory authority in the coaching industry.)
To save you time, I gathered three great confidence coaching courses:
1. American Confidence Institute (ACI)
Founded by Alyssa Dver, the American Confidence Institute has been a go-to since 2015 for confidence e-classes and coaching certifications.
As confidence specialists, they’ve trained over 350,000 people and certified 400+ coaches globally. In total, the certification takes 8-10 hours.
- Price: $599
- ICF-accredited? Yes
2. Co-Active Training Institute (CTI)
CTI’s Professional Coach Training program is a rigorous course that teaches both foundational and advanced coaching techniques.
As a global leader in professional coach training, CTI has educated over 130,000 coaches, with trainees from over a third of the Fortune 100 companies.
Their programs prepare you to confidently coach anyone on any subject.
- Price: Between $1,000 and $20,000
- ICF-accredited? Yes
3. Transformation Service (International Academy of Life Coaching & Entrepreneurship)
Not sure what confidence building skills are? Or what is a coaching question for confidence?
You’ll learn it in this course!
Transformation Service offers a six-hour confidence coaching online course called “Confidence Life Coach Certification & Confidence Blueprint.”
The course delves into modern success psychology, teaching you how to build real, lasting confidence as a coach. So far, over 500,000 students and organizations have taken their courses.
- Price: $14.99
- ICF-accredited? No (But it’s CPD-accredited — Continuing Professional Development)

How do clients find the best confidence coaches?
By now, you’ve learned how you can find clients. But how do your clients discover you?
Here are the top ways clients find confidence coaches:
- Referrals: Word-of-mouth marketing is powerful. Happy clients often recommend coaches to others.
- Social media (organic and paid): By sharing valuable content and running ads, you attract potential clients who are scrolling through these platforms.
- Google search: Many clients start their journey by simply typing “confidence coach near me” into Google. If you’re ranked well, they’ll find you.
- Events: Both online and offline events offer you a platform to showcase your expertise. Think of webinars, seminars, or workshops.
How much do confidence coaches cost?
Confidence coaching fees vary widely.
Instead of a fixed salary, your earnings depend largely on how you market yourself and the value you bring to clients.
If you’re a new coach, I recommend starting out by charging $1,500 for a three-month package. This is a good starting point while you gather experience and testimonials.
With proven results, you can then set your prices at $5,000 and more.
In fact, most of my students make six figures and more with their coaching businesses.
There’s no reason why you wouldn’t be able to do the same.
