How I calculated these numbers (methodology)
Here’s how I created this guide:
- What I mean by “market size:” I define it as annual revenue generated by coach practitioners (not company valuations). This follows the ICF Global Coaching Study, the most widely recognized benchmark in the industry.
- Primary sources: ICF’s latest studies reveal total revenue, coach headcount, fees, and regional figures. CAGR (compound annual growth rate) and 2030 projections are based on ICF reports between 2020–2025. And to fill in gaps, I reference reputable niche/adjacent reports.
- What I exclude: I don’t include software/platform valuations or training/LMS markets in the overall coaching market size figure. Including those is the main reason you’ll see inflated estimates in a lot of other reports. That said, I’ll mention them in online and niche-specific sections when credible service-industry data is lacking.
- Units and rounding: All figures are shown in USD and rounded for clarity.
- Updates: This page is consistently refreshed whenever major studies are published.

Coaching is not to be confused with consulting, therapy, personal support, mentoring or training. In short, those methods improve situations whereas coaching improves people and empowers them to get the outcomes they desire.

The global coaching market size was $5.34 billion in 2025. The industry has grown steadily over the last decade from $4.56 billion in 2022, $2.85 billion in 2019, and $2.35 billion in 2015.
The main reason is that coaching demand is increasing, with both individuals and companies investing on coaching. Coaching is also becoming more accessible as it is moving online. And finally, the market is maturing; the coaching industry is now a mainstream, billion-dollar industry.
Is the coaching industry growing in 2026?
The market has grown 62% since 2019 and 17% since 2022. Looking ahead, it’s projected to reach $5.8 billion in 2026 and $9.5 billion by 2032 with a 8.53% CAGR. There are several factors boosting this growth – for example, the number of coaches has grown steadily over the past decade, coaching is shifting online, and a higher number of corporations now invest in leadership and employee development.

In 2025, there were an estimated 122,974 coach practitioners worldwide.
That’s up from 109,200 in 2022 and 71,000 in 2019—a 54% increase in just six years. For context, the industry only grew by about 33% between 2015 and 2019, so the pace of growth has increased significantly.

How much do coaches charge?
The average global coaching fee is $234 per hour. Active coaches earn about $49,283 annually worldwide, working an average of 11.6 hours per week with around 12.4 active clients.
However, in the US, the average yearly income is $71,719.
Earnings by coaching niche
Coaching income depends on niching:
- Executive coaching: $96,461 annually
- Life coaching: $56,770 annually
- Health coaching: $65,500 annually
- Career coaching: $47,632 annually
However, note that these figures are based on sources like Salary.com and ZipRecruiter and include income for self-employed and employed coaches. Individual coaches – especially those who are self-employed – can earn far more than this and many of my clients have gone on to earn six, multiple six and even seven figures in various niches.
Experience and pricing trends
- Coaches with 10+ years of experience earn an average of $69,721 annually, compared to $33,553 for millennials and $60,323 for Baby Boomers.
- Experienced coaches also charge more—$270/hour vs. $193/hour for newer coaches—and tend to work with more clients each week.
While the global average is helpful, these numbers show that income can depend on niche, experience, and pricing model. Executive coaches take home the highest earnings, but other niches can also reach significant earnings based on these factors.

One challenge with coaching market data is that different reports define “coaching” differently.
