What is a clarity coach?
Clarity coaching helps clients live more fulfilling and purposeful personal and professional lives by providing better insight into their thoughts, actions, hopes, and dreams.
Having clarity means you have a well-defined sense of purpose, direction, and understanding of who you are. In other words, you know what you want, why, and how you’ll get it. And according to research, that type of purpose helps people live healthier lives.
But clarity doesn’t always come naturally.
And that’s where you, as a clarity coach, come in.
You give people a sense of direction by uncovering their true desires and motivations.
With your guidance, they learn to…
- Make better decisions
- Set realistic goals
- And overcome life’s challenges without losing confidence or focus
For example, Keltie Maguire helps business owners find clarity and make better decisions.
But more on who works with a clarity coach later.
Right now, let’s focus on what a clarity coach actually does.
What does a clarity coach do?
As a clarity coach, you help your clients sort through mental clutter to determine what matters to them – not those around them.
You also equip your clients with ways to identify and overcome limiting beliefs to make better decisions, find solutions, and overcome obstacles.
As a clarity coach, you’ll…
- Help your clients identify their core values, passions, dreams, and beliefs to better align their actions with them
- Help your clients understand their thought processes to identify self-limiting beliefs and foster self-awareness
- Teach them to set realistic short- and long-term goals
- Offer emotional support and encouragement while holding them accountable for their progress
- Create a positive mindset shift with tools like journaling, meditation, and visualization
- Come up with a detailed plan that tells them how to solve their problems with actionable steps
Now that we’ve discussed how you’ll help your clients, let’s talk about who they are.
Who hires a clarity coach?
There’s not a single part of life that doesn’t benefit from clarity.
As a coach, you could help your clients find clarity in their:
- Relationships
- Business
- Workplace
- Life goals
- Purpose
- Career
- Health and wellness
…and more!
In short, anyone could benefit from and hire a clarity coach, and there are dozens of clarity coaching niches out there for you to choose from.
But we’ll talk more about those later.
For now, we’ll focus on how to become a clarity coach.
How do you become a great clarity coach?
Working as a clarity coach can be incredibly impactful.
After all, 80% of clients say they saw improved self-esteem or confidence after working with a coach.
But I see a lot of people assume they can’t become a clarity coach because the market is saturated.
Look:
There ARE a lot of clarity coaches out there. But none of them have YOUR knowledge or expertise.
You can build your dream clarity coaching business in just six steps.
They are:
- Finding your niche
- Improving your coaching skills
- Getting certified
- Creating and pricing your package
- Getting clients
- Working with clients
So, why wait? Let’s start with finding your niche.
1. Find a coaching niche
To be a truly successful clarity coach, you have to be clear about who you help and what you do. In other words, you have to have a niche.
Having one helps you reach your dream clients, stand out from the crowd, and immediately demonstrate your value.
And sure, clarity coaching is a niche. But the more specific you can be inside that niche, the better.
Some clarity coaching examples include:
- Career
- Life
- Academic
- Relationship
- Business
- Wealth
- Leadership
…and more.
For example, Sara Young Wang helps people get clarity ahead of a career change…
…Kym Hibbard helps women decide to stay in or leave a relationship…
…And the coaches at Seasons of Change help clients find their purpose during life transitions.
And the good news is you can find your profitable niche with just one sentence. Check out this video to see how:
2. Improve your clarity coaching skills
The most important part of being a good clarity coach is knowing how to help your clients reach their goals.
But to be a GREAT clarity coach, you need to have some other coaching skills in your back pocket.
That includes:
- Being empathetic and creating a safe space for them to express those emotions
- Communicating effectively and articulating insights clearly, building rapport, and providing feedback
- Listening deeply and understanding what your clients are working toward
- Asking effective questions to help guide your clients
- Solving problems and finding strategies that work for your clients
- Believing in your clients and acting as their cheerleader
If you want to find out more about what it takes to be a successful clarity coach, I talk about the ABCs of coaching in this video:
3. Get a clarity coaching certification
Here’s the thing about clarity coaching certification programs: You don’t need them.
All you need to be a clarity coach is the right experience.
Your clients don’t care about certifications – they care about the results you can help them achieve.
But that’s not to say you can’t get certified. I’ll tell you more about clarity coaching certification programs later.
Next up: Creating your clarity coaching package.
4. Create and price a clarity coaching package
Instead of charging per hour or month, I recommend new coaches start simple with a 3-month structured coaching program priced at $1,500. Why? That’s what I share in this video:
But I know how tempting it is to set higher prices.
In fact, I priced my first coaching package at $5,000.
Sure, I got a few clients, but I heard this more often than not:
When I lowered my price, clients started rolling in! And when it was right to do so, I moved back to that $5,000 point.
Plus, a $1,500 package can replace your full-time salary!
Take a look:
So think of this as your starting point – you can always raise your prices later.
Speaking of clients…
Let’s talk about how to find them!
5. Get your first coaching clients
When it comes to getting your first paying clients, it’s best to start small.
Like, “I don’t even have a website” small.
I didn’t start with a website – in fact, I didn’t build one until after I had a few clients under my belt.
Instead, use this time to focus on building relationships and trust by offering value to your target audience.
Here’s where to do it.
Your network
Ask around! Maybe you know someone who could benefit from clarity coaching. If you don’t, maybe they could refer you to somebody who does!
Social media
Figure out which platforms your clients are already spending time on and sign up.
Join the conversation, build genuine connections, and offer value where you can – over time, you’ll become a trusted source and go-to clarity coach. Read more about using social media for your coaching business here.
Podcasts
When you can get in front of the audience of a trusted host like Keltie Maguire (The Clarity Podcast) or Jamie Smart (Get Clarity), you immediately become a trustworthy source.

6. Work with your clients
Now that you’ve got clients, the fun can begin.
Your sessions drive your clients’ results, so you have to make them as effective as possible.
Instead of just trying to reach the overall goal, set sub-goals and define milestones. That way, tracking your client’s progress and keeping them accountable is easier.

Top clarity coaching certification programs
As I mentioned earlier, getting certified as a clarity coach isn’t a requirement.
But if you decide to get a clarity coaching certification, these are some of the best available. First, a quick word about choosing the best one for you.
Note: I haven’t taken these clarity coaching certification courses myself. I’m recommending them based on reviews and reputation.
How to choose a certification
Here are a few things to base your decision on when considering clarity coaching certification programs:
- Reputation
- Accreditation
- Duration
- Curriculum
- Delivery
Ultimately, look for a program that teaches what YOU want to learn, whether that’s a specific coaching style, how to coach and coaching techniques, or how to build your coaching practice.
The coaching certification industry is unregulated, and so you need to be careful about the program you sign up for. Look for one that’s approved by a well-established body like the International Coaching Federation (ICF).
The programs I list below all integrate clarity coaching in their curriculum (even if not all of them are accredited). You can also choose a more general life coaching certification program.
Learn more about choosing one in this guide.

3. Certified Clarity Coach Training Program
This program takes a holistic approach to clarity coaching with four pillars: Coaching Skills, Business Growth, Intentional Use of Self, and Intuition and Energy. But it’s set up as a collective instead of a course.
It includes live coaching calls, access to a members-only community, and more.
Duration: Continual
Delivery: Online (live and pre-recorded)
Price: $500 per quarter or $2,000 per year

4. Trauma-Sensitive Clarity Coach Training
If you want to work with survivors of abuse, this training is for you.

Now that we’ve gone over the different certification programs, we can cover how much you can make as a clarity coach.
How much does a clarity coach make?
There’s no cut-and-dry answer when it comes to how much a clarity coach makes.
In the end, your salary depends on you.
It all depends on things like your:
- Experience
- Expertise
- Niche
- Location
- And certification
However, according to Glassdoor, the average U.S.-based clarity coach makes $74,045 per year.
But that’s just the starting point! If you follow the steps I outlined in this article, you can earn as much as you want.
Why?
Because when you’re a self-employed clarity coach with your own business, you set the rates and choose your clients.
